News Items are texts that provide information about daily events/events. These daily events are considered newsworthy or important.

The purpose of someone writing a news item is to convey information to readers, viewers, or listeners, news that is interesting and worthy of being news and in a way that invites public attention.

Features of News Item Text

Focus on an incident

There is a headline that contains brief information

Use some useful verbs to inform something, such as (happened, told, said, informed, quoted, reported, etc.)

There are indirect sentences and direct sentences that use quotation marks ("...")

This text contains descriptions of the place, time and also the details of the events taking place.

Types of Example Sentences in News Items

1. Direct Sentence

“People will look for different locations and experiences through outdoor travel experiences,” said PHRI Human Resources Training Chair Alexander Nayoan on Tuesday, November 30.

“So, companies that are able to develop today are those that have adapted in the digital era,” Alexander opined.

2. Indirect Sentence

The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) predicted that nature-based or outdoor tourism will still become a travel trend in 2022 as tourists do not only seek travel experience but also wellness trips amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Unfortunately, Alexander said foreign tourist visits could not be expected to boost the country’s tourism.

Structure of News Items

Well, Smart Friends, here are three general arrangements for writing news items:

1. Main Event

Contains the main events that become the writing material. The main incident deserves to be news. Simply put, what, where, and when happened.

2. Elaboration

Contains a series of other events behind the main events occurring. Other events that have an influence so that the main event occurs. An explanation of the background of the incident; the people involved in the incident; the place where the incident occurred; and others.

3. Resource of Information

Contains news source statements. It can be in the form of comments from perpetrators, witnesses, opinions of experts as well as parties deemed authorized and others.
